Taiwan Traditional Glove Puppetry  (Bodehi)

Intro

Performed by the three generation of the Jin Kwei Lo Puppetry Company, which was founded by the first female puppeteer in Taiwan, the show brings the audience to the unbelievable journey to the exquisite traditional art.

The stage comes alive with finely embroidered costumes, exquisite headdresses, and delicately carved faces of the puppets, which stand nearly a foot high. This show brings the audience on an unbelievable journey into the exquisite traditional art form of Traditional Glove Puppetry, showcasing the highly intricate movements performed by glove puppets such as vaudeville, fighting and ribbon dancing etc. Both Shih-Hung Ko and Shih-Hua Ko, the puppeteers of this show, received The Most Popular Puppeteer Award in The Golden Dolphin International Puppet Festival, Bulgaria in 2002 for this performance.

Currently, Taiwan is considered the leading center for glove puppetry. Where it is deeply ingrained into Taiwanese local religions, beliefs, culture, having an influence in all levels of society. It has a close relation for the stabilities of the society.
