Inspired by the special Taiwan cultural background of combing palmar drama and street medicine selling troupe in the early year, Cycle of Ganghonarrates Hu San-niang’s destiny after she was forced to join the outlaws of Mount Liang.
Cycle of Gangho introduces the one and only heroine character in Outlaws of the Marsh. Being forced to join the outlaws of Mount Liang, the noble-born Hu San-niang was able to lead the outlaws and distinguished herself by outstanding meritorious achievement as their female general. There are many ways to interpret her nickname “Lady warrior”; the most common explanation is “ a beautiful lady stands out from the crowd.”
Along with the change of time and circumstances, puppetry troupes tour from city to countryside. They devote their skillful performance to bring joys and tears to their audiences. Despite all obstacles, the show must go on. At the very least, puppeteers always has the company of their troupe family; just as Hu San-niang has her outlaw brothers of Mount Liang to share weal and woe.
